Man says daughter was lured into man's home with puppy, molested

GLENDALE, AZ - A Glendale man is charged with kidnapping and sexual conduct with a minor, after an 8-year-old girl told police that the man used a puppy to lure her into his home.

The victim’s father said the incident has changed his family “forever.”

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office charged Diego Jimenez, 18, earlier this week.

The girl was playing outside while visiting family in the area of 67th and Glendale avenues when Jimenez “was able to lure [her] into his house,” the father said. The father’s name is being withheld to protect the identity of his daughter.

“[He committed a] monstrosity against my child,” the father said.

The girl tried to escape at one point, but the man refused to let her, she told authorities.

The father said an errant soccer ball kick saved his daughter from further abuse.

Children playing outside the home accidentally kicked a soccer ball into Jimenez’s home and followed the ball into the residence, which interrupted Jimenez and gave the girl a chance to escape, the father said.

“She just ran, she was scared,” the father said.

The incident has changed the way the father sees his family’s neighborhood, and his own.

“You think you're safe, you think you're in your neighborhood [and] know the people that live around you,” he said. “But…actually, you don't."
