Driver arrested after serious crash on Loop 101

GLENDALE, AZ - Authorities have arrested the driver of a vehicle involved in a serious accident in the west Valley Saturday afternoon.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred southbound on Loop 101 at Olive Avenue around 4:30 p.m.

Officer Carrick Cook said a Dodge Stratus entered the freeway southbound from Olive Avenue and cut across all lanes of traffic, cutting off a motorcycle rider.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the Dodge fled the scene and was involved in another crash at 99th and Glendale avenues.

Cook said the driver, a white male dressed in black, fled on foot into a field southeast of the intersection.

DPS, Glendale police and Phoenix police searched for the driver.

The driver was located in the corn field and taken into custody.

DPS spokesman Raul Garcia said a DUI investigation is underway.
