Small Business Saturday: Local shops gear up for big business

GLENDALE, AZ - If you still have some holiday shopping to do, you can dodge the crowds and support our local economy at the same time by heading to the Valley's Main Streets.

ABC15 found local shops are gearing up for Small Business Saturday with some deals of their own.

When you walk into the Pink House Boutique in Glendale, you might find the kind of gift that stands out.

"We kind of pride ourselves in the fact that we carry so many handmade items, unusual items. You're not going to see what you see here almost anywhere else," said Gina Burns, owner of Gina's Original AZ.

The boutique houses several small businesses under one roof-- like Gina's business.

"I literally started out at First Friday's, with the little card table and two dozen necklaces," Burns said.

Gina's jewelry is now sold in 30 shops. But she's still based out of Glendale.

She and hundreds of other small business owners depend on the holidays for a boost in business.

That's why they're urging shoppers to check out what they have to offer on Small Business Saturday.

"Try to support the people that you know that are in here every day. And this is their livelihood, this is it," Burns said.

With some deals on Black Friday and more to come on Saturday, the customers are already trickling in from out of town or even out of state.

"All the new stuff coming in, people tend to forget about the old shops and where it actually started. So it's kind of fun to learn the history of some shops walking around," said Kacie Moraga as she showed her family around town.

You can also find several stores participating in Scottsdale and other towns.
