Woman struck while jogging in Glendale dies, identified as Alisha Church

GLENDALE, AZ - A jogger has died after being struck by a driver on eastbound Beardsley Road east of 75th Avenue Friday morning.

According to Glendale police, the accident happened around 5:20 a.m. when a grey sedan reportedly hit one of two females jogging on the side of the road as it was passing them.

The 42-year-old Peoria driver remained on scene after the crash.

The woman who died from her injuries has been identified as 43-year-old Glendale resident Alisha Church. Church was treated at the scene by paramedics and air-lifted to a Valley hospital where she died.

The second jogger, a 44-year-old Peoria resident, was not struck.

Police say investigators are still working to determine whether impairment or distraction may have factored into the accident. Police do not believe speed was a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.
