Glendale store employee cut trying to stop cell phone thief

GLENDALE, AZ - A worker at a Glendale store was injured during an attempt to stop a suspect from stealing cell phones.

Glendale police Officer Tracey Breeden said the suspect was using scissors to cut cords in an attempt to steal the phones around 5 p.m. at a Verizon store near 76th Avenue and Bell Road.

An employee chased the suspect out of the store and tried to grab him, Breeden said.

During the struggle, the employee suffered a minor wound from the scissors.

Officers found the suspect and he was taken into custody without incident.

Breeden said the suspect claims the injury to the employee was accidental.
