A teenager is hospitalized after being struck by a car in Glendale.

The Glendale Police Department took to Twitter around 4 p.m. Thursday to warn drivers to avoid the area of 59th Avenue and Union Hills Drive due to a collision in the area.

According to a Glendale police spokesperson, a teenage boy was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike near 57th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.

It’s believed that the boy attempted to cross the roadway in front of a vehicle when he was hit, officials said.

The female driver remained at the scene until authorities arrived. Neither speed nor impairment are believed to be factors in the accident.

The bicyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

Authorities are still attempting to get in touch with the boy’s parents at this time.

Eastbound at Union Hills Drive will be shutdown at 59th Avenue. Westbound on Union Hills Drive will also be shutdown from 57th Avenue. Drivers should use an alternate route until further notice.
