GLENDALE, AZ - A field fire in Glendale was upgraded to a first alarm when crews arrived on scene Monday night.
Glendale Fire Department spokesman Jose Morales said firefighters from Glendale, Phoenix and Peoria responded to the fire at Camelback Road and 87th Avenue around 8:30 p.m.
Morales said when the first crews arrived they found 10 to 15 foot flames and called for additional firefighters.
About 6 to 10 acres of wheat burned before the fire was put out, Morales said.
He said the closest building was about 50 feet away but crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to it.
A slight breeze made for the potential for the fire to grow fast, but it was put out pretty quickly, Morales said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and Morales said crews would be stopping by throughout the night to make sure no smoldering spots re-ignite.Here is video of the fire from ABC15 viewer Carey Holzman:
