GLENDALE, AZ - Authorities say two people have died in a fire at a home in Glendale.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, a person in a wheelchair was trapped inside the home near 61st and Glendale avenues.
An official said when the first crews arrived, the living room was on fire and a person was in the bedroom already deceased. A woman was also in the home when crews arrived, but she was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
It was confirmed Saturday morning by Glendale Police that the two people who died were a 16-year-old boy named Elijah Martin and a 49-year-old woman named Helen Russell.
Martin's father, Melvin, spoke with ABC15 and told us that Martin was a junior at Glendale High School.
"When I saw the wheelchair, I broke down..." Melvin said. "They had it roped off...and I just broke down."
Detective Ted Yoder said Saturday one juvenile was also in the home, but survived.
The fire was upgraded to a first alarm and was fought by Glendale and Phoenix firefighters.
An investigation is being conducted as to how the fire started, but at this time it's clear the fire started inside the home, Detective Yoder said.
