BUCKEYE, AZ - Thick black smoke is pouring from a wildfire burning along the Gila River west of the Valley.
Bureau of Land Management spokesman Ken Shaver said the Robbins Butte Fire has burned about 125 acres so far and is 20 percent contained.
Shaver said it’s burning through thick vegetation along the riverbed, west of Highway 85 between Buckeye and Gila Bend.
He said three hand crews, four engines, a helicopter and air attack plane are working to extinguish the fire.
Shaver said heat and humidity are causing problems for the ground crews who will work well into the evening and be back out on Sunday.
