BUCKEYE, AZ - Authorities say a suspect allegedly driving a stolen car was taken to a hospital after a vehicle pursuit ended Thursday afternoon in Buckeye.
The adult male suspect in his 20s suffered dog bites and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Bart Graves with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Avondale police spotted the stolen vehicle Thursday in the area of 107th Avenue and Indian School Road, said Graves. DPS was then asked to assist in following the vehicle.
DPS officers saw the SUV on Interstate 10 and turned on their lights. That's when the suspect fired shots at the officers, Graves said.
The stolen vehicle got off the freeway and started throwing items out of the car, Graves said.
For an unknown reason, the SUV stopped near S. Jackrabbit Trail and Southern Avenue in Buckeye around 1:30 p.m. and the suspect opened the car door, he said.
Officers then released police dogs and the suspect was bitten, Graves said. An officer also reportedly shot at the suspect .
Graves initially said the suspect was shot, but has since said it's unclear if he was hit.
Air15 video showed more than a dozen law enforcement vehicles near a canal with the area taped off.
