BUCKEYE, AZ - Residents at the Cholla Ranch apartment complex in Buckeye were evacuated Tuesday night after an armed man barricaded himself inside one of the units.
Buckeye police spokesman Jason Weeks said the incident started around 6 p.m. when police got a call about a 46-year-old man with a gun walking around the apartments near Miller and Baseline Roads.
Witnesses told police the man, later identified as Edward Tackett, fired his gun several times before officers arrived.
Weeks said when officers showed up to question Tackett, he pulled out the gun and waved it around.
Officers then fired several shots at Tackett who took off running into the apartment complex.
The suspect remained barricaded inside his apartment for several hours.
Police evacuated the area and tried to make contact with Tackett.
Around 12:30 a.m., officials notified ABC15 the situation "ended peacefully."
The Arizona Department of Public Safety's Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating the shooting. A Buckeye police officer has been place on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
No officers or bystanders were injured in this accident.
