BUCKEYE, AZ - Authorities say an armed robbery suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Buckeye Tuesday night.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Carrick Cook said the incident started with a robbery at the Bank of America on Watson Road near the I-10.
Cook said authorities were able to track the robbery suspect's car to 221st Avenue and Van Buren.
When officers confronted the suspect, he told police he had a gun in his back pocket. Officers shot the man with bean bags hoping it would stop him.
The bean bags did not work, so officers released one of their police dogs who was then shot by the suspect.
Cook said after the dog was shot, multiple officers opened fire on the man who later died from his injuries.
Authorities said four swat teams are currently looking for a possible second suspect. The dead suspect's clothes do not match witness descriptions leading police to believe another person may be involved.
Cook said the Federal Bureau of Investigation is handling the bank robbery and DPS is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
The police dog is currently being treated for unknown injuries. He is expected to be okay.
