BUCKEYE, AZ - Officials are investigating a case of animal cruelty in Buckeye.
According to Maricopa County Sheriff's Lt.. Brandon Jones, authorities received an anonymous tip Tuesday about animal cruelty at a residence near Sun Valley Parkway and Van Buren Street.
When officials arrived on the scene they found several horses emaciated. Jones said the owner was not providing adequate care or food for the animals.
Investigators found 13 dogs and 11 horses on the property.
Of the 11 horses, nine were removed from the property. They were taken to a veterinarian to be examined as part of the investigation.
Jones said one horse, a Clydesdale, was 700 to 800 pounds underweight.
All the dogs will remain on the property but will be monitored, authorities said.
Authorities said the female property owner has not been arrested, but it is anticipated she will face charges of animal cruelty some time in the future.
