BUCKEYE, AZ - An investigation is underway after a fight broke out at a prison unit near Buckeye Tuesday morning.
Arizona Department of Corrections spokesman Bill Lamoreaux said the disturbance happened at the Lewis Prison around 8 a.m. when a group of about 40 inmates refused to leave the dining hall and started to damage property.
Lamoreaux said a "chemical agent" was used to control the inmates. There were minor injuries to some staff and inmates.
The closed-custody Morey Unit remains on lockdown while the incident is being investigated.
Lamoreaux said the disturbance lasted only about 5 minutes.
