Amber Alert cancelled after sisters, ages 8 and 1 found safe

BUCKEYE, AZ - Two sisters who were the subject of an Amber Alert have been recovered safely after they were taken from their home by their 16-year-old sister.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the 16-year-old was left to babysit her siblings and when her mother was gone she took the 8- and 1-year-old sisters from the home.

Authorities said the teen is an unlicensed and inexperienced driver and has threatened suicide within the last month. She's reportedly on medication for depression but stopped taking it two days ago.

Authorities say she doesn't handle the 1-year-old's crying well and lashes out at the child.

The 16-year-old didn't take any provisions with her and it was not believed she had any weapons with her.

There was no word where the two younger children were found. No other details were immediately given.
