AVONDALE, AZ - A Phoenix man convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting of his ex-girlfriend has been sentenced to natural life in prison.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 39-year-old Thomas Lamont Moton was sentenced Friday.
He was convicted in the case last month.
Authorities say Takesha Barnes was shot multiple times in the parking lot of Avondale's Westview High School on May 25, 2012.
The 33-year-old Barnes had been attending a ceremony for her eighth-grade daughter.
Barnes was declared dead at a Phoenix hospital.
Avondale police say Barnes had taken out an order of protection four days before the shooting after repeated threats by Moton.
Authorities say Moton and Barnes had two children together and a history of domestic violence.
