An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper was slightly injured after a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 in Avondale Thursday.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. just west of Avondale Boulevard.

Authorities say one driver was ejected in that crash and another person also was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

According to DPS, a trooper with the department pulled over a car during a traffic stop in the area. The trooper went back to his patrol car to complete paperwork when a small Hyundai SUV lost control and collided with the patrol car.

The impact forced the patrol car into the violator vehicle that the trooper had pulled over. Following this, a commercial vehicle lost control and collided into the center median wall, hitting the Hyundai that had struck the patrol car.

Someone inside the commercial vehicle was ejected into the westbound lanes of traffic, landed by the shoulder and HOV lane, and is currently in critical condition.

The trooper sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the injured weren't immediately released.

Authorities closed an I-10 on-ramp at Dysart Road and blocked several lanes of traffic as they investigated the crash.
