NASCAR fans invade the Valley

AVONDALE, AZ - Thousands of RVs and trailers were set up Wednesday night in anticipation of the NASCAR races at Phoenix International Raceway.

The race hasn't even started and already, a lot of drinks have been served.

The parking lot is starting to resemble a small city, even including a fully stocked Bashas' grocery store.

"It's kind of like a love-thing," said Jeff Garner of Bakersfield, California.

"This is our 19th year here and it is like a family," he told ABC15.

Garner is parked right next to the grocery store and said he expects about 50,000 people to pass by his trailer.

This will be the 10th year Bashas' has been at PIR, a spokesperson for the racetrack said.

Despite a chance of rain and cooler temperatures in the forecast, spectators don't seem to be worried about the weather.

"We get everyone together around the fire, drink some beers and we will listen to some tunes," Garner said as music played from the stereo in his Mercedes.
