AVONDALE, AZ - The city of Avondale is hosting its first naturalization ceremonies next week.
Two ceremonies are planned for Aug. 16, in which 220 Arizona residents will become U.S. citizens.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will hold one ceremony in the morning and another in the afternoon.
The agency's field director in Phoenix says the ceremonies help communities understand the immigration process.
According to the agency, nearly 700,000 people became U.S. citizens during fiscal year 2011.
