Vehicles torched at Tempe apartment complex

TEMPE, AZ - Officials are investigating after multiple vehicles were set on fire Thursday morning in Tempe.

Investigators said a Chrysler Sebring and a Chevrolet truck were intentionally set on fire at an apartment complex near Broadway Road and Priest Drive in Tempe.

A third vehicle, a Honda Civic, belonged to Andrew Kotalik. His roommate drives the Sebring that was set on fire. His car is right next to the Sebring and was damaged by the fire.

“The flame was pretty big,” said Kotalik, who saw the flames from his second floor balcony before calling 911. "Basically you're animal, human instincts kick in and you panic.”

The incident happened between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

No one was injured in the blaze and no arrests have been made. Authorities do not have any suspect information, but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information or may have observed anything suspicious should contact the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311.
