TEMPE, AZ - The Tempe Public Library will deduct balances of individuals with overdue materials for every bottle of water donated in the month of May.
For every bottle of water donated, the library will deduct $1 off the donating person’s balance, with a case of water covering the whole overdue balance, according to the City of Tempe.
The donated water will go to the City of Tempe's CARE7 program, Tempe Community Council’s Homeless Services programs and the Tempe Community Action Agency, officials said.
In 2013, over 26,000 bottles of water were donated, helping thousands of people stay hydrated, according to the City of Tempe.
“Prolonged exposure to the extreme high summer temperatures in Arizona can be very dangerous. Vulnerable populations like older adults, children, and people experiencing homelessness are at even greater risk," Stephen Sparks, interim director of Tempe Community Action Agency said.
The Tempe Public Library is located at 3500 S Rural Road, near Southern Ave and Rural Road in Tempe.
