Tempe police search for carjacking, kidnapping suspect

TEMPE, AZ - Tempe police are asking for the public's help in finding a carjacking and kidnapping suspect.

Sgt. Michael Pooley with Tempe police said an incident last week on Jan. 29 took place just after 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Fry's Marketplace at McClintock Drive and Baseline Road.

The suspect asked the victim for a ride in his vehicle and then threatened to shoot the victim if he didn't give up any cash, Pooley said.

The victim managed to get away, but the suspect stole the victim's vehicle and left the scene, Pooley said.

Just before this incident, Pooley said the same suspect tried to kidnap a female victim in the parking lot of a Walgreens near McClintock Drive and Guadalupe Road.

The victim was able to defend herself, and the suspect got away, Pooley said.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his mid 20s to mid 30s. He's 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-10-inches tall with a medium build.

At the time of these attacks, he was wearing a white baseball cap and a white long sleeve shirt under a dark T-shirt. He had a dark Nike jacket with a white "swoosh" on the back.

Anyone who may know this suspect or have any information on these incidents is asked to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377).
