Police make arrest after deadly shooting at Tempe park

TEMPE, AZ - Tempe police have arrested a man for second-degree murder after a shooting at a park in Tempe Friday night.

According to police Lt. Michael Pooley, officers responded to Kiwanis Park, near Mill Avenue and Baseline Road, around 11:30 p.m. for a shooting call.

When officers got on the scene they found a 33-year-old man had been shot.

Police say the victim had been at the park for a 4th of July family gathering and got into an argument with another family member.

The argument escalated and the suspect shot the man, who is his half-brother, according to police.

Police have identified the victim as 33-year-old Martin Woods.

Pooley said 37-year-old Thomas Lee Woods has been taken into custody for the shooting death.
