Tempe police made a big effort Wednesday night to ease fears among Chinese international students at ASU following the death of a student over the weekend.
Police say Yue Jiang was shot by Holly Davis after a minor fender bender near the intersection of Broadway and McClintock.
At a question and answer forum Chinese-exchange students expressed worries it was a hate crime, that they'll be targeted by more violence and some wondered if they should be armed .
Tempe police had to make it clear the shooting was a random act of violence.
“This community needs to know the police are nearby, we're here to help," said Tempe Police Commander Noah Johnson.
