TEMPE, AZ - Police identified the man who shot a neighbor in the leg when he tried to break up an argument between the suspect and his girlfriend Sunday night in Tempe.
According to Tempe police Sgt. Michael Pooley, it happened just before 9 p.m. in a neighorbood near McClintock Drive and Elliot Road.
Pooley said 21-year-old Jeremy Cartwright hit his girlfriend during the altercation, which is when a neighbor tried to step in.
As the neighbor intervened, Cartwright pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the leg, Pooley said. Cartwright then fled the scene.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and was treated for the gunshot wound.
Cartwright was later found in the backyard of a nearby home, Pooley said.
He was booked into jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
