Tempe PD: 1 dead in crash after car catches fire

TEMPE, AZ - One person has died in a fiery crash in Tempe, authorities say.

Tempe police say the accident happened around 8:50 a.m. when a vehicle traveling westbound on Baseline Road crossed into the eastbound lanes for about 200 yards, went over a sidewalk, through fence and hit a wall near Price Road.

The vehicle caught fire and Sgt. Michael Pooley said the driver was killed.

Air15 video showed the burned out vehicle resting against a wall and a large tree down. The driver’s side of the vehicle was covered by a blue blanket.

Police say they are looking at impairment or a medical issue as possible factors in the accident.
