An upper-floor apartment resident in Tempe called 911 early Thursday morning after waking up to realize a portion of the building was on fire.
Fire officials were called out to the scene near Broadway Road and Dorsey Lane where they say a fire likely started on a lower level balcony.
Fortunately, the woman who reported the fire was able to get out safely. No injuries were reported.
Six units were evacuated for safety, but two units have smoke and fire damage. The unaffected residents were only out of their apartments for a short time while crews worked the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
