TEMPE, AZ - Surveillance video Wednesday shows a Valley mother shopping at a Tempe grocery store and flipping through a magazine at the check out, while her child is left in a 100-degree car in the parking lot.
Authorities arrested Maria-Theresa Pio and charged her with child abuse after her 1-year-old was left in a hot car for over 40 minutes, according to Molly Enright, spokeswoman for Tempe police.
The incident happened on Saturday after a woman alerted an off-duty first responder that about a baby that was crying in the car.
Police said the inside of the vehicle registered at a temperature of 124 degrees, while the infant's car seat registered at 113 degrees.
The child was taken to a nearby hospital and released to his father. The child is expected to make a full recovery.
