Police target minors in Safe and Sober campaign

TEMPE, AZ - A crackdown to catch underage drinkers resulted in 237 arrests, according to Tempe Police.

Over the past weekend, police made:

  • 237 arrests
  • 67 DUI arrests
  • 26 MIP (minor in possession of alcohol)
  • 57 MIC (minor in consumption of alcohol)
  • 3 DUI under 21
  • The rest other offenses

Tempe Police, along with other law enforcement agencies, decided to do the ‘Safe and Sober Campaign’ after the death of 18-year-old Naomi McClendon.

Detectives say McClendon was intoxicated after drinking at a party last weekend. Her friends brought her back to their apartment, where McClendon lost her balance on the balcony of a high rise apartment and fell to her death .
