Police are investigating after an Arizona State University student fell from a balcony at a Tempe apartment building Friday night.

Authorities were called to the West 6th building near 5th Street and Ash Avenue last night after receiving reports of a person who fell off a balcony at the high-rise.

Police say the man was in his 20s, but his name hasn't been released yet.

Cedric Moore lives on the 21st floor of the West 6th building. The victim fell from the floor below him.

"I just heard a lot of screaming; a lot of yelling," Moore said.

Authorities say the man was dead at the scene and his body was found near the seventh-level pool area.

News of the incident quickly gained attention on social media.

"Everybody that had Snapped me this morning had said 'Hey, look somebody had fallen off,'" Moore said. "Everybody was like 'Hey, I was at the party right across the way and we all saw somebody just roll off and free fall.'"

An ASU spokesperson confirmed that the victim was a student at the school but provided no further details.

Impairment may have been a factor but that has not been confirmed. There's no evidence of foul play.

Several residents say they're not all that surprised that an incident such as this would happen near Mill Avenue. Many called the apartments an "after party spot" after the bars close.

An investigation is ongoing at the time and no additional information was immediately available.
