Police: 1 person dead, another wounded in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ - Tempe police say they are searching for a man suspected of fatally shooting a woman and wounding his neighbor.

They say the double shooting occurred about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of an apartment complex near Rural and Guadalupe Roads.

Police identified 33-year-old John Brazel as the person of interest in the shootings.

The neighbor who was injured saw a man and a woman arguing in the complex parking lot and tried to intervene.

Police say Brazel pulled out a gun and allegedly shot the woman and then shot the neighbor before fleeing the scene in a white Chevy Tahoe with Arizona license plate number BDY6785. The vehicle is said to have a sticker of a rifle in the back windshield.

Authorities say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the male victim was taken to a Tempe hospital.

Their names aren't immediately available.

Pooley said Kyrene de la Mariposa and Waggoner elementary schools were put on lockdown as a precautionary measure only.

Police said Brazel is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him or his vehicle, please call 911.
