Tempe pedestrian crash near Loop 101 shuts down busy road

TEMPE, AZ - A portion of University Drive in Tempe was shut down in both directions for several hours after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Wednesday.

Tempe police said a vehicle traveling westbound hit the pedestrian crossing mid-block around 4 a.m. just east of Price Road.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police Sgt. Mike Pooley.

Pooley said there were no signs of impairment from the driver.

The road was back open by 7:30 a.m.
