TEMPE, AZ - Police say a skateboarder has life-threatening injuries after being hit in Tempe on Friday.
The driver of the SUV did not stay at the scene of the accident, according to Tempe police Lt. Scott Smith.
Smith said the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. at University Drive and Ash Avenue.
Sgt. Michael Pooley said Friday night that 24-year-old Dustin Kalkbrenner was crossing University Avenue when he was hit by a silver or gray Nissan Xterra.
Kalkbrenner was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Pooley said the SUV left the scene southbound into the adjacent neighborhood and was last seen speeding on or near Farmer Avenue from University Drive.
Pooley said the suspect is believed to be a white or light-skinned male in his early 20s with bushy brown shoulder length hair and a hair comb or pick stuck in it.
He said police also believe there was a passenger in the vehicle, the only description being that it appeared to be a white male.
