PD: 18-year-old killed after falling from 10th floor of residential building in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ - Police say an 18-year-old has died after falling from the 10th floor of a residential building in Tempe Sunday morning.

Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley said emergency crews arrived on scene of the residential complex near Rural Road and Apache Boulevard at 2:40 a.m. to investigate and treat the victim for her injuries.

Pooley identified the victim as Naomi McClendon, of Kansas.

Police said they believe the victim was heavily intoxicated. Pooley said surveillance video showed that the teenager went up to a friend's apartment unit on the 10th floor and out onto the balcony.

He said the video shows that McClendon was leaning on the ledge of the balcony and somehow lost her balance.

Pooley made it clear that this does not look like an intentional act, but a tragedy.

He said that if McClendon was drunk, whoever supplied the alcohol could face charges.
