TEMPE, AZ - The Pat Tillman Foundation and police are highly encouraging everyone attending Pat's Run on Saturday to not bring any bags, purses or backpacks to the race venue.
In response to the deadly bombings Monday at the Boston Marathon, coordinators of the annual Tempe race want everyone running and all spectators to keep their bags and backpacks at home, according to a statement issued Tuesday.
The foundation is also encouraging everyone to report any suspicious activity, people, or packages to the nearest security personnel during the race.
Tempe police are expecting about 38,000 people at the event held at Sun Devil Stadium.
"The Pat Tillman Foundation continues to work closely with the City of Tempe and Tempe police, Arizona State University, Arizona State University Police Department and additional security to ensure the safety of all our participants at this weekend's 9th Annual Pat's Run," the statement said.
Police told ABC15 they raised their threat level for the event. The 4.2-mile run is scheduled to start at 7:05 a.m.
