Authorities say a woman died after she was stabbed multiple times in Guadalupe Monday afternoon.

According to a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, a woman was stabbed at a home near Avenida del Yaqui and Calle Guadalupe around 1:30 p.m.

Deputies say the victim, Elaine Sanchez, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later passed away.

Investigators alerted nearby law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect.

Tempe Police spotted the suspect at the furniture store, "The Dump" near Elliot Road and Priest Drive; where they took the suspect into custody before handing him over to the sheriff's office.

The suspect has since been identified as 24-year-old Ernie Paderez. He was booked into jail on one count of second-degree murder.

Further information about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing, or any potential connection between the suspect and victim, was not immediately available.
