Man struck, killed in Tempe light rail accident identified as 28-year-old transient

TEMPE, AZ - One day after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a METRO Light Rail train , police have identified the victim.

Steven Berry of the Mesa Police Department said 28-year-old Wade L Stokley somehow collided with a light rail train at Sycamore and Main in Mesa Friday afternoon. The train was traveling westbound toward Tempe.

Police said the victim was dragged for more than a mile. Berry described Stokley as a transient.

Tempe police Lt. Scott Smith said an officer was flagged down by a witness in front of the police substation on Apache boulevard saying there was a body on the tracks.

An email into ABC15 from a witness said the victim appeared to have a leg dismembered. Police said there are several areas along the track where they found remains from the victim.

Authorities are still investigating the crash and no official cause for the accident has been released, as of Saturday shortly before noon.
