Lost Our Home Pet Shelter looking for help to build new facility

TEMPE, AZ - Two times the pets at the Lost Our Home pet shelter have lost their homes. Once, when their owners abandoned them. And then again when Lost Our Home lost their own home.

Now after weeks of searching Lost Our Home has found a new building, but before they can move the founders say they need a lot of help getting things ready.

"We need a lot of general handyman help, because there is a lot that goes into getting the building prepared," said founder Jodi Polanski.

Polanski says the shelter lost their old place near 32nd Street and Shea Boulevard after their landlord terminated their lease.

Plans for the new building call for cat condos, a dog play area, a food bank, and a special low cost boarding area.

None of which, Polanski's staff really knows how to build. That's why she's looking for volunteers who know how to fix door frames, put in drywall, set up ventilation systems, or design engineering plans.

"We just can't wait to be here because we know there is so much more that we can do with this building, it's a dream come true," said Polanski

Officials with Lost our Home believe the new building will be able to house twice as many pets as their old building. The shelter currently has about 50 abandoned pets in house and around 200 in foster homes.

If you are interested in volunteering or donating contact Lost Our Home at (602) 445 - 7387 (PETS).

The new shelter is located at 2323 South Hardy in Tempe.
