Keenan Williams arrested, charged after deadly hit-and-run in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ - Authorities have made an arrest after one person died in a multi-vehicle hit-and-run last week in Tempe.

Sgt. Michael Pooley said 23-year-old Keenan Williams was arrested Saturday and booked into the Tempe City Jail on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and endangerment.

Police said Williams' vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Baseline Road and Hardy Drive on Thursday. The force of the collision caused that vehicle to crash into another car.

The crash left 60-year-old Ruben Montalbo, a passenger in the front seat of one of the vehicles, gravely injured.

Montalbo was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The other people in the car Montalbo was inside, including the driver, did not suffer serious or life-threatening injuries.

Williams initially fled the scene on foot, according to Pooley.

Williams was booked into the Tempe City Jail and has been transported to the Maricopa County Jail.
