TEMPE, AZ - A body found over the weekend near Tempe Marketplace has been identified as the missing Arizona State University student, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
The Medical Examiner's Office told ABC15 over the phone just before 3 p.m. Wednesday that the body found Sunday in the river was of 19-year-old Jack Culolias.
Two private search groups were looking for 19-year-old Jack Culolias Sunday morning when one group spotted a body floating in the river near the spot where one of the freshman's shoes was found about two weeks ago, Tempe police Sgt. Mike Pooley said.
Culolias was last seen Nov. 30 after being kicked out of the Cadillac Ranch restaurant at Tempe Marketplace during a fraternity party.
The body pulled from the water on Sunday was wearing a single red shoe, said Tempe police spokeswoman Molly Enright.
Because of the shoe, police said there was a "strong possibility" that the body was that of Culolias.
His mother found a red shoe on Dec. 4, which police later said belonged to Culolias.
The cause of death has not yet been determined.
