It's a family affair for one Arizona State University freshman

TEMPE, AZ - Sophia Acosta is one of the thousands of students moving into ASU residence halls throughout the Valley.

Becoming a Sun Devil seemed like a formality for the Chandler native.

"We never said the 't-word'…Tucson," the incoming ASU freshman laughed.

That's because her mom is an ASU graduate, as well as her brother.

"We were talking about how we were going to take pictures of my son leaving campus and Sophia walking onto the campus because we thought how neat would that be," her mother Stephanie said.

Her dad loves the idea of his baby girl staying close to home and specifically, close to his job.

"I work down the street, so there will be unexpected visits and check-ins," laughed her father, Frank.

Sophia admits, today's move in represents a new chapter for her, but she's still going to miss coming home to her family. So maybe dad's surprise visits won't be bad after all.

"Everyone makes fun of me and says, 'you're only 25 minutes away.' But it's just going to be different not seeing my family every day," said Sophia.
