TEMPE, AZ - He is being remembered as a businessman, a philanthropist and man who loved his family and community.
Eddie Basha Jr. was honored Saturday at a funeral service at ASU's Gammage Auditorium.
The grocer who grew the Basha chain to 160 stores statewide, died March 26th at the age of 75.
"We lost someone who really loved us," said his wife Nadine to a crowd of an estimated 5000 people. "He made us feel valued."
Governor Jan Brewer along with past governors and a slew of high profile figures attended the services.
But those who spoke of Basha call him a man who treated everyone equally regardless of their social "ranking."
"When we would go to any of his stores he treated his employees with respect," said friend Dan Cracchiolo. "To them, he was just 'Eddie.'"
Basha is survived by his wife, 6 sons and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
