Fellow cab drivers hold car wash fundraiser for cab driver shot

TEMPE, AZ - He survived two gun shots to the head, but now friends and family members of cab driver Milton Odom are having a fundraiser they say will help him keep surviving.

Police say Odom was shot twice by a passenger on August 24th.

Since then Odom says he's accumulated more than $100,000 in medical bills.

"We are all drivers and it could have happened to any one of us, if it happened to me I would want someone standing out here helping," said fellow cab driver Gregg Petersen.

To help him pay off those bills friends and fellow cab drivers are having a benefit car wash all day Friday.

Odom says he was shot shortly after picking up a fare in Mesa. Odom says the man sat down directly behind, shot him in the back of the head, got out of the car, and then shot him again.

Odom was able to drive himself halfway to the hospital before being picked up by an ambulance.

He now has several stitches where he was shot but is expected to be okay.

The car wash is being held at the Wash Wizard car wash near University and McClintock Drive in Tempe.

It will run until 7 p.m. Friday.

Along with a car wash, friends of Odom will also be auctioning off a signed football from Patrick Peterson of the Arizona Cardinals.
