TEMPE, Ariz. - Authorities say one person was shot and another injured in an apparent road rage incident on Interstate 10 in the east Valley.
The incident shut down the westbound freeway at Elliot Road for several hours.
Officials say it began near Wildhorse Pass just after 3 p.m. when a Jeep and a group of motorcyclists started to race and cut each other off.
About 5 miles later the Jeep crashed into the median wall near Elliot Road. Two other cars were also involved in the crash, according to Tempe police Lt. Steve Anderson.
At some point, police said, a person from one of the vehicles got out and shot someone in the Jeep. That person was shot in the face and is in stable condition at a local hospital. Another person was also injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. Their injuries were not serious.
Anderson said one person is in custody, but it wasn't immediately clear if it was the shooter.
Authorities are also looking for the motorcyclists to question them about the incident.
