TEMPE, AZ - More than a dozen school bus routes in Tempe were delayed on Tuesday morning after buses were broken into overnight.
According to the Tempe Elementary School District, approximately 10 to 15 bus routes ran late on Tuesday after batteries were stolen from 18 buses at the bus yard at University and Priest Drives.
Monica Allread with the Tempe Elementary School District said, 18 buses were effected, 13 of the buses were for special needs students.
According to Allread, a total of 34 batteries were stolen. A second battery is needed in some buses. In a special needs bus, a second battery is needed to lift wheel chairs.
All buses are scheduled to run on time on Tuesday Afternoon. Tempe Elementary School District is looking into new security measures after the incident.
