FD: Woman critically hurt in Tempe house fire

TEMPE, AZ - A woman has been critically injured in a house fire in Tempe, authorities say.

The fire near Broadway Road and McClintock Drive was reported around 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Tempe Asst. Fire Chief John Valenzuela told ABC15 a woman in her 20s was pulled from the burning home by firefighters. She was taken to the Maricopa County Burn Center in critical condition.

When the first crews arrived they found the home fully engulfed in flames and called for backup.

"Crews made an unbelievable stop and they were in active fire when they executed the rescue, which means they had to go through fire to rescue the person," Valenzuela said.

There was no one else inside the home. The victim was reportedly found in the living area of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Valenzuela said an arson investigation is underway due to the "significance" of the victim's injuries.
