ASU student Austin Godfrey busted for pointing laser at officer's eyes

TEMPE, AZ - An Arizona State University student is facing aggravated assault charges after allegedly pointing a laser at an officer's eyes.

On Saturday around 2 a.m., Austin Godfrey, 19, allegedly aimed the laser at an ASU officer driving at the intersection of Rural and Broadway hitting him in the eyes, according to a report from the Arizona State University Police Department.

Following the incident, the officer stopped Godfrey's vehicle.

After a laser pointer was found in the vehicle and detained, Godfrey admitted to pointing it at other vehicles and street signs, according to the report.

Godfrey was subsequently arrested and booked into the 4th Avenue Jail.
