A 21-year-old Arizona State University student has been arrested for allegedly taking pictures of women in bathrooms.

ASU police say Xiaoyuan Zhang was seen taking pictures of women in bathroom stalls Monday night on the Tempe campus before someone called police.

ASU police responded and found Zhang in a nearby lecture hall.

Because of a language barrier, he was taken to the ASU police station and interviewed in Mandarin. He allegedly gave officers permission to look through his phone, where six pictures of women inside of bathroom stalls were found.

He was arrested and booked on suspicion of surreptitious photography.

He has a $5,000 secured bond and is on an immigration hold.

A court official told the suspect at his first court appearance that he will appear before an immigration judge before his release from jail.

The court official told the suspect that the immigration judge could release him, set a bond for his future appearance, or detain him in advance of deportation.
