As ASU students return to classes, 'Safe & Sober' campaign launched

TEMPE, AZ - Today marks the first day of classes at Arizona State University for the school year.
This year enrollment is up 8 percent since last year. There are just over 82,000 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled on all campuses.
The school is also seeing an increase in international and transfer students.
There are 11,000 incoming freshmen this year.
As school starts there is an additional push for safety.
Tempe police are launching its "Safe & Sober Campaign" today.
The campaign will include extra patrols and education for students.
Most of the campaign will be focused on the weekend. The campaign runs through September 6.  
Tempe and ASU police, along with community partners, are also working on making contact with students and people who live near campus to curb crime or disruptions from the return of the students.
