MCSO: 2 suspects loose after shootout near Arizona Mills

TEMPE, AZ - Authorities said a gun was found inside Arizona Mills after a shooting across the street from the Tempe mall Tuesday.

Brandon Jones with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said about 14 shots were fired around 11:30 a.m. at the Ramada Limited in the area of Interstate 10 and Baseline Road, near Arizona Mills.

According to Jones, it is believed two suspects were shooting at each other when they both fled the scene.

A black male was reportedly seen running in the direction of Arizona Mills, prompting mall security to shut down portions of the mall. A second suspect is believed to have fled the scene in a truck.

Investigators said they have not determined if the gun found inside the mall belonged to one of the suspects involved with the hotel shooting.

The mall was partially closed for several hours Tuesday as crews searched for the suspect.

Video from Air15 showed an MCSO helicopter hovering over the mall as Tempe police patrol vehicles sat stationed at several entrances.

No arrests have been made in the incident.
